मणिकर्णिका- द क़्वीन ऑफ़ झाँसी एक आम लड़की की कहानी है जो अपने समयकाल में आयी एक ऐसी विषम परिस्थिति से दो हाथ करती है। पूरी फिल्म में एक साधारण से लड़की अपने अंदर के योद्धा (वीरता) को कैसे बाहर निकालती है और अपने आप को सशक्त नारी के रूप में देखती हैं, पर बनी है । एक ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि पर बनी फिल्म मणिकर्णिका की कहानी राजमौली के पिता एवं बाहुबली के लेखक के. वी विजयेंद्र प्रसाद ने लिखी है जो इस फिल्म को और भी खास बनाती है। सन 1857 के विद्रोह की वीरांगना झाँसी की रानी लक्ष्मीबाई के जीवनकाल को चरितार्थ करती यह फिल्म अपने आप में कमाल की है। अपने अभिनय से लोहा मनवा चुकी कंगना एक नए किरदार में नजर आएँगी।
मणिकर्णिका (मनु बाई ) झाँसी की रानी लक्ष्मीबाई के बचपन का नाम है।

Who is the queen of Jhansi, LakshmiBai or Manikarnia?

Manikarnia (Manu Bai) was the childhood name of the queen of Jhansi, Lakshmi Bai.

LakshmiBai, the queen of Jhansi was born 190 years ago on 19 November, 1928 in the holy city of Varanasi (Banaras,UP). Her parents (Father-Moropant Tambe and Mother-Bhagirathi Bai) came from Maharshtra and was cousin of Nana Saheb. Moropant Tambe, LaksmiBai’s father worked for a court Peshwa of Bithoor district. She was married to the Maharaja of Jhansi, Raja Gangadhar Rao in May 1842 at the age of 14 and gave birth to a boy, named Damodar Rao, in 1851, who died after four months.The Maharaja Gangadhar Rao adopted a child called Anand Rao, the son of his cousin, who was renamed Damodar Rao, the day before the Maharaja died.

After the death of Gangadhar Rao in November 1853, East India Company, under the Governor-General Lord Dalhousie, applied the Doctrine of Lapse, rejecting Damodar Rao’s claim to the throne and annexing the state to British territories. In March 1854 she was given pension of Rs. 60,000 and ordered to leave the palace.
The queen issued a proclamation to fight for the independence when Sir Hugh Rose command the troops to besiege Jhansi. The queen fight for bravely against the British but finally Jhansi got besieged on 23 March 1858.

Manikarnika Release Date

Manikarnika Controversy

What is controversy behind the film Manikarnika? 
The Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha of Rajasthan claims that the movie has an dirty ad vulgar portrayal of Rani Laxmibai, who was a Brahmin. They said that the movie is based on a book written by the London-based author, Jaishree Mishra called ‘Rani’ which was banned in Uttar Pradesh in 2008 by the then Mayawati government . In this book Laxmibai is shown to be involved in an affair with a British officer Robert Ellis.Though the filmmaker Krish (Director of the movie) has denied any such portrayal of the queen that can hurt nationalist sentiments.
